Kawandi

  • Folk School Warroad 314 Lake Street NE Warroad, MN 56763 (map)

“Kawandi” is what people of African descent who migrated to Western India (Siddis) call their quilts.

The Siddi women hand sewed scraps directly onto a backing. This technique starts in one corner, and you work your way around, adding pieces, by hand, finishing in the middle.

We will make a table topper 16” square. The backing, thread & needles will be supplied.  You bring an assortment of scrap fabrics at least 3” square.

Anyone under age 12 must bring an adult.
