Warroad, Minnesota, is a special place with an amazing heritage.  There is a mystery that comes with our vibrancy and heritage and we find we are one of the most well-known rural communities of Northern Minnesota, where many have yet to visit. We intend to help celebrate the mystery locally, as a community. We also intend to give more reason to bring visitors to experience our vibrant heritage.

The only city located on Lake of the Woods, Warroad is originally home to the Ojibwe people and their rich culture. The community’s namesake comes from periodic visits from the Dakota people of the west. The "War road" river led to a natural territorial boundary between the nations and was "The road to war" over the centuries. European settlement started in the 18th and 19th centuries as a fur and trading post for Northwest Company, Hudson Bay company and American Fur Company. The early 1900's brought with it connection to the outpost to the broader world via the Great Northern Canadian Railroad. The railroad created economic vibrancy supporting the great logging boom and the advent of commercial fishing on the fish factory that is Lake of the Woods. That very railroad brought in early entrepreneurship, including the Marvin Family who would founded Marvin Cedar and Lumber company in 1912. Today Marvin is still a thriving benefactor to the region.

There is a rich history to uncover and experience together, and that is largely what we are setting out to do.
