Kawandi Method Demonstration

  • St Mary's Catholic Church 511 Cedar Avenue Northwest Warroad, MN, 56763 United States (map)

“Kawandi” is how people of African descent in Western India (Siddis) call their quilts. It means just that: quilt.

They collected scraps of fabric and sew small pieces onto a sari backing. Usually starting in one corner, and working their way around, adding rows of strips as they go, sewing directly onto the backing with a simple running stitch.

Come see a demonstration of how it is done.
