Weave Towels on a Rigid-Heddle Loom

  • Folk School Warroad 319 Lake Street Northwest Warroad, MN, 56763 United States (map)

Weavers the world over LOVE weaving towels. It’s a terrific opportunity to play with colors, patterns and weave structures … and they make great gifts!

This class is going to be open for only 3 new weavers; the rest of the class needs some experience weaving on a Rigid Heddle loom (able to warp your loom with minimal assistance).

We will also spend time covering design considerations for stripes and plaids, as well as how to plan your own weaving projects. You’ll receive pre-class planning information when you register to allow you time to think about potential colors and designs.

You’ll weave a choice of a towel or bread cloth as your class project. The class will include sections on understanding basic design principles and warping and weaving techniques for stripes and plaids. We will also cover the steps to plan your project before you warp and weave.

Weavers with experience may choose to weave 1, 2 or 3 towels. One will be woven in class; you will finish additional towels at home.

Equipment Note: Students will weave on a Schacht Flip Rigid Heddle loom. Alternatively, you can bring your own Rigid Heddle loom to class – if you choose this option the instructor will contact you prior to class to confirm the required equipment and tools you’ll need to bring.

Yarns for one towel and a step-by-step handout are included in your class fee. Multiple yarn colors will be available to choose from. There will be an added yarn cost for multiple towels.  We will also spend time covering design considerations for stripes and plaids, as well as how to plan your own weaving projects. You’ll receive pre-class planning information when you register to allow you time to think about potential colors and designs.

There will be a lunch breck.  Please bring a lunch or be prepared to go get something.
